Never been much of a person for New Year's resolutions, but in an effort to find more joy in the simple things of life, this year I made a long list of short term goals, mostly with the purpose of getting me out of the apartment and enjoying the city. First on the list was obtaining a library card so that I could take advantage of my local library.
Each year, more than 1.5 million people — almost the equivalent of the entire population of Brooklyn — use the Central Library. Containing more than 1.5 million books, magazines, and multimedia materials, free Internet access throughout the building, and, a Multilingual Center for non-English speakers and those interested in linguistics.
Opened on February 1, 1941, the Central Library is the major reference center for BPL's 60-location system. The library's notable architecture was created to resemble an open book, with the spine on Grand Army Plaza and the building's two wings opening like pages onto Eastern Parkway and Flatbush Avenue.
After the successful completion of obtaining my library card, I decided to take a little walk to the grocery store.
One thing that has helped keep my spending down is, you can only buy as much as you can carry...and well I'm just not that strong. :)
