Sunsets

This is the view I was blessed with from my window at work tonight. There have been so many nights at work when the ciaos of 50 teenagers is silenced by a beautiful sunset and every time I thank God for calm such beauty brings to my heart.

Give me the splendid silent sun /at sunset/. -Walt Whitman

Lucy

I went this morning to have breakfast with my friend Mel. She recently gave birth to her second little girl, Lucy. Lucy means light and I think that meaning so perfectly fits this little doll. Unfortunately I forgot my camera this morning so am just posting one I got from her…

This pretty much sums up what she is like….full of smiles! There is something so refreshing about being around a new life.

When I arrived back home I experimented a little with adding some color to my room. I took three frames I bought at Target for $1.99 each and filled them with random pictures I had. I was feeling inspired by Lucy’s smiles!

In other news they installed new front doors in my apartment building…

I am not sure how I feel about this change as I thought the old doors had a lot of character. I’m sure I should just be thankful for any improvements made to the building.

I’m really loving Thai food these days. I have my favorite place which is Song but it is about a 15 to 20 minute walk away. Tonight I decided to try some place closer so Udom Thai Restaurant it is…

I decided to order the Pad See Yue which was pretty good….not as good as Song but it worked.

Create

I have been thinking a lot lately about creativity. I was reflecting on life as a kid. There is a certain freedom as a child to create, imagine, express, draw and color with out fear. It seems most people lose that with age as we either come to view ourselves as the “creative” type or not. I don’t know maybe this has all been coming to me as I am looking for outlets outside of work I can enjoy. I suddenly felt the challenge to be more creative so I picked up some art supplies. With out putting much thought into it I have been drawing a little each day…

So far it has felt pretty good for the soul :)

6/23/10

And so my birthday continues as birthdays sometimes do….

Today one of my work colleagues and friends brought me a lovely dessert from the Delicatessan Gourmet Food located in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn.

Brighton Beach has a large population of Russian immigrants so I have always been fascinated with it as I have with other condensed neighborhoods here in the city. You can imagine my childlike excitement by this dessert as I knew it was made at a Russian bakery. Nothing beats a cross-cultural experience through the joys of chocolate.

I told everyone in the office I was featuring this on my blog so they decided to make fun of me for taking a picture of the bag as they just couldn’t see where my excitement was coming from….

But they soon caught onto my vision and my Russian co-worker wrote this message for me…

Apparently it is something along the lines of Happy Birthday or so she says ;)

Then in the afternoon they surprised me with a delicious ice cream cake and the Residents sang Happy Birthday to me. It was special and a moment I will always remember.

Gourmet Unlimited

While at work I was looking for a place to order dinner from when I came across the Gourmet Unlimited. I was immediately fascinated by this 25th hour they advertize...

Not only did they offer me an extra hour to add to my day but they made me a pretty amazing parmesan Panini!

Thirty One

Well today I celebrated my 31st Birthday. Actually the celebrating for me started the night before with a lovely evening walk and a stop at the ice cream truck. Another great thing about summer in Brooklyn is finding ice cream trucks at just about any hour.....

Originally I was scheduled to work the evening shift but decided that sounded like a pretty depressing way to spend a birthday so I requested the day off. I slept in than awoke to find so much love from family and friends through snail mail, phone calls and e-mails! My life is so rich with love!

For lunch I went to my favorite deli at the corner and ordered a turkey sandwich...

Bradley's unhappy face as I was unwilling to share...

I’m starting to see a theme here. I didn’t realize how much of my day was about food. :)

When my wonderful roommates and friends arrived home, we went out to one of our favorite Mexican restaurants a few blocks away. The food was delicious and the sangria not too bad either ;)

We arrived back home for some amazing mini cupcakes..really words can't describe!

I received some beautiful sunflowers from my roommate Emily. This picture doesn't do them justice. They really brightened up the room and my day!

What can I say about life now at 31? Even now I am always learning new lessons about life and keep hoping with each new lesson that it will be the last for a time. I keep thinking how can I be tempted to look at others as if their life is better than mine? It is only an illusion. I think we are all searching, we are all in want, we are all in need, we are all students with one teacher. So tonight I am thankful for the journey even the pains that come with growth because it is what makes life beautiful to me.

The following is a montage of me trying to take a decent picture with Bradley. Believe me it isn't easy...
